Ah…finally the weekend.
That means there is time to bundle up for runs outside, time for reading about Eat, Live, Run’s chocolate chip pumpkin spice pancakes, and time to blog…YAY….no time for watching football though…shoot that is a tragedy…;)
In case you didn’t know, the ladies who inspired me to start a blog of my own do a lot of cooking. And a lot of recipe writing.
So I decided it’s high time I write a recipe inspired post too. I mean, I’m sure y’all love listening to me ramble about how much I love yoga and how I am always running late, but it’s time for a recipe 🙂
And not just a recipe, how about a dessert?
Yes. Yes please.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love a really naughty dessert as much as the next girl. You just can’t beat a home baked brownie from the box (are they or are they not better than home made?! I am a sucker for packaged brownie mix) or a bowl of chocolate chip cookie dough on girls night…heck any night.
But another thing I really love is a dessert that, quite honestly, could be eaten for breakfast in a pinch.
I don’t think anyone should feel guilty about eating dessert; as long as you eat dessert in moderate portion and maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, you’ve got nothing to worry about!
Chocolate isn’t going anywhere…so go ahead and embrace the indulgent side of life!
But guess what? You can indulge in dessert AND feel good because there are nutritious desserts out there. Or at least there are in my kitchen…
Example A: Frozen Yogurt!
And definitely a sprinkle of Oreos or chocolate…mmmhmm.
I”m sure you have all seen those cute frozen yogurt shops that are popping up everywhere…But sometimes, wouldn’t you rather just stay snuggled up at home and eat frozen yogurt? The only downside of that yummy soft serve fro yo with toppings is that you cannot purchase it in a carton and pull it out of the fridge any old day…shoot…
But you can whip up an imitation version on your own 🙂 All you need is plain yogurt and a little creativity…
Dark Chocolate Raspberry Fro Yo
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of Nutella (more if you licked half of it off the spoon before it hit the yogurt like me)
- 1/2 tablespoon of cocoa
- 1/2 tablespoon raspberry jam
- chocolate chips
- some crunchy Cinnamon cereal like Kashi Go Lean crunch!
To make this lovely bowl of goodness, all you do is mix together the first 4 ingredients! If you like less sweetness, add more cocoa and less nutella and jam. If you like more raspberry and less chocolate…I bet you can figure out what to do!
1/2 cup Greek strawberry yogurt
2 tablespoons of cream cheese
Gram cracker crumbs
1/2 cup of plain yogurt
1 tablespoon of peanut butter
1/2 tablespoon of honey
